This is a "battery conditioner/charger" unit. The customer we installed this device for uses his van for camping at camp facilities that have plug in power at the site. On the outside of the van, there is a male socket that accepts the end of a live extension cord. Once the connection is made, the van then has 110 volt AC power (the outlet in the photo). Also when plugged in, the van's battery is being charged the whole time, allowing the use of the radio, the van's lights, and any electrical accessory the van has, without fear of killing the battery.
